Worldwork and Deep Democracy: Navigating the waters of community life

9-11.9.2016 in Kremnica, Slovakia

Led by Alexandra Vassiliou, Ph.D. and Lena Aslanidou, M.P.W.

Many would agree that Europe is going through difficult times. The economic crisis in the southern European Countries, austerity politics and the debate around their effectiveness, national identities and borders, the refugee crisis, are some of the issues that have been in the media and in people’s discussions. We are seeing a rise of xenophobia, racism and homophobia, as well as a rise in extremism and violence.

Howdo we deal with these issues as communities, whether these are local communities, nations or Europe as a whole? More than ever in our times we need to develop skills in order to deal with and facilitate the complexities and the conflicts that are present in our human interactions, communities and organizations. This seminar is based on Process Oriented psychology methods for Worldwork and group work. These methods are used in various contexts in order to facilitate social tensions and conflicts by instigating the dialogue and the relationship between the different parties involved.

In this seminar we will present the theoretical context and we will put it in practice through working individually (inner work) in dyads, small groups and the large group. We will explore: group dynamics and relationships in groups, communities as human fields, stereotypes and oppression and how these appear in human interaction. This seminar is for anyone interested in understanding and unfolding group experiences, regardless if they are in the role of facilitator or group member.
