‘Earth Based Psychology: Path Awareness from the teachings of Don Juan, Richard Feynman and Lao Tse’
by Arnold Mindell, Ph.D

The Yaqui Indian shaman, Don Juan, says “align yourself with the powers of the earth”. The Nobel prize winning physicist Richard Feynman tells us that elementary “particles sniff all paths and take the one with least action”. The mystic Lao Tse says, “the sage follows the way, and everything benefits.”

Arnold Mindell now combines and updates these various teachings from shamanism, physics and Taoism to create what he calls earth-based “path consciousness”, a fundamental, human spiritual experience linked to the nature of the planet earth.
By connecting quantum physics with aboriginal mythology, Mindell develops new methods to guide us and determine the best momentary psychological direction through inner turmoil, relationship trouble, and community issues. By connecting “path awareness” to the inner experience of the earth as well as the real physical universe, he develops elementary methods that can be learned by anyone and applied just about anywhere.

In the 22 chapters, 9 appendices and 114 pictures and diagrams, you find ca. 250 pages of Earth based Psychology describing new “directional methods” for dreamwork, relationship awareness and organizational development. In the appendices you can catch up on the basics of quantum thinking and vectors.

Projects in Process: Two research – based events in London
with Julie Diamond and Lee Spark Jones
30 April – 1 May 2007

These two events immediately follow the IAPOP Conference, and provide a unique opportunity for the international community to explore this essential area more deeply together.

Designing and Carrying Out Process Work Research
30 April – 1 May 2007 (9.00am – 4.00pm)

This Gateway Course is specifically designed to enable and support students enrolled in training courses in Process Oriented Psychology internationally to develop their research projects

This two-day course introduces the fundamentals of designing and carrying out a Process Work research project, including concepts, methods, presentation formats, and inner work skills for clarifying purpose, maintaining motivation, and working with obstacles.

It will present a range of possible approaches: qualitative and quantitative inquiry, arts-based research, and theoretical inquiry, as well as the use of Process Work in framing a project, gathering and interpreting information, and unfolding the research process.

The course will be especially useful for any students of Process Oriented Psychology who are thinking about doing a research project, or are in the process of designing one. If you are working on an existing project, the course will help you deepen your relationship to it, resolve problems, and give you a clearer overview.

Specific topics include:
• Research as conversation
• Look who’s talking! Knowing yourself as a researcher
• Who is listening? Identifying your audience
• Choosing a topic
• Framing and focusing
• Participants wanted!
• How to get the information you want – and what to do with it when you’ve got it!
• Dreaming and creativity in the research process

Research Colloquium for Process Work students and friends
30 April – 1May 2007 (6.00pm-9.00pm)

For all students of Process Work, friends, and fellow researchers!

This event provides an opportunity for students of Process Work programs and those interested in applying a Process-oriented approach to research to share their research in progress with peers and interested others.

The focus of the seminar will be student presentation of projects, giving and receiving feedback, and research instruction tailored to the projects presented.

Possible topics for instruction might include:
• bounding your project
• generating good data
• making a research poster
• quality criteria and relevance (including ethics and contribution to the field)
• referencing
• polishing your project

ONE BRUSH, ONE STROKE:
The Simplicity of Process Oriented Psychology
Arny and Amy Mindell
21-23 April 2007
London, UK

1 brush, 1 stroke emphasizes both elementary and advanced cognitive and artistic aspects of process oriented psychology and its connection to spiritual traditions.

We shall define, study and play with what we shall call, our “processmind”, an ancient and new idea that lies at the root of the skills, metaskills and community making methods of process oriented psychology. Processmind is a force field that organizes all of our spontaneous experiences, a subtle feeling ability and simultaneously a cognitive skill that creates the experience of flow through inner, relationship and teamwork/business issues.

In Zen, aspects of the process mind appear as Kensho or Satori. Shamans might call your process mind, your “personal power”. By studying fields, we shall find this “mind” in psychology, physics and the land around you; that is in the spirit of “place”. Finding your process mind may show not only your central feeling or “metaskill” ability, but also a possible, central life task. It is as much art as science, childlike wonder as cognitive understanding, trickster as serious elder.

In these three days, we refer briefly to quantum ideas, and will use perennial Asian concepts to turn rigid frozen states and stark realities into a potentially enjoyable dance. How? With one mind, one brush, and one stroke going in many different directions. J

When we apply the creativity of your process mind to innerwork, relationships and organizations, new inner and outer work methods appear, including a sense of your “signature field”, Krishnamurti’s “choice-less awareness”, and process oriented “mindfulness” meditation in relationships and teamwork-business. Process Mind’s 1 Brush, 1 Stroke, may be like the idea of “Buddha Nature”, namely, everyone’s basic essence.

There will be time for theory, demonstrations in the center, inner and outer work on the following themes:
1. Innerwork; Your Signature Field, Your “Home” –and “house keeping”.
2. Process Oriented Mindfulness meditation in Relationships. The space we live in.
3. A Glimpse of “Enlightenment” in Teamwork.

Venue: The Irish Center, 50-52 Camden Square, Camden-London, UK.

We warmly invite you to join us, to support our International connectedness and diversity to come to life, to learn and be interested in each other and what draws us to this path.

Our dream is to co-create this meeting with all of you and would love to hear from you about what issues and themes you feel would be important and relevant.
Some of the ideas we have include space to process student issues including research and standards for training.

At this moment we would like to ask for your help in organising this meeting. Please pass this information onto other students you know of. Also let us know if you are interested in being part of this meeting and what might make it possible for you to join. We will be sending out information and registration forms later.
